Replacing media drives

To remove the CD-ROM drive

Note: The CD-ROM drive is installed in the top bay.

Prepare the server for CD-ROM drive replacement as follows:
a. Shut down the server, and then disconnect the power and
b. Remove the side cover.
c. Remove the upper fan holder foam.
For instructions, see "Preparing the server for hardware
maintenance" on page 120.

Disconnect the faulty drive's power and signal (IDE) cables.

Open the front panel on the server.

Remove and save the two screws that secure the CD-ROM drive to
the front of the chassis.

Pull the drive out of the chassis, and then place it on an antistatic
surface.
Note: If you plan to leave the bay empty, install a filler panel and
stainless steel EMI shield on the bay.

Remove the four screws and two slide rails from the drive.

Use an ESD wrist strap to protect static-sensitive components.
