Section 3: General Operating Instructions
Overturning Hazard
Refer to Figure 3-8:
!
DANGER
To prevent serious injury or death:
Never allow the tractor to take the weight of the flail mower
when working on inclined surfaces (ditches, slopes etc.), as
the combined weight of the tractor and flail mower may
cause the tractor to overturn.
Lightweight tractors with rear attached implements may
need weights added to the front to maintain steering control.
Consult your tractor Operator's Manual to determine
proper weight requirements and maximum weight
limitations.
Survey any incline surface the tractor will be traveling on
for holes and low depressions in the ground that the tractor
wheel can drop into suddenly causing the tractor to
overturn unexpectedly. Avoid such drop-offs.
!
WARNING
To prevent serious injury or death:
Operate only power machines equipped with an enclosed
certified Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS) and seat belt.
Fasten seat belt snugly and securely to help protect against
being tossed about and falling.
Working on Incline Surfaces
The flail mower will follow the terrain up or down 65
degrees. When working with the flail on inclining and
declining surfaces, make sure the weight of the flail head
is supported by the roller on the ground and not the
tractor. Setting the incline cylinder to float will assist the
mower in following the terrain.
Plan ahead. Always inspect inclined surfaces for objects
the mower can not pass over and for holes, drop-offs, etc.
the tractor should not go near. Mark any that are not
easily seen with a flag. Make plans on how to avoid
objects, holes, drop-offs, etc. without raising the mower.
Raising the mower can cause an overturning hazard.
Entering a Decline Surface
Slowly move the tractor forward to the edge of the
downward sloped surface while adjusting the incline
angle of the flail head to follow the decline slope. Once
positioned along side the slope to be mowed, engage the
power take-off and begin mowing at a safe travel speed.
Exiting a Decline Surface
Disengage the Power take-off and slowly move the
tractor forward onto level ground while adjusting the
incline angle or the flail head to keep the roller on the
ground. Once on level ground, stop the tractor and adjust
the incline angle as needed.
