Section 1: Assembly & Set-up
Tractor & Tire Load Capacities
The rear mounted flail mower must not cause the tractor
load capacities to be exceeded. Do not exceed maximum
permitted gross weight, front axle, and rear axle loads
specified for the tractor connected to the flail mower.
It is equally important to not exceed the permitted tire
loads specified by the tire manufacture.
To ensure safe turning capability, the front axle must
carry at least 20% of the unladen tractor weight.
Tractor Data
The permitted tractor gross weight, unladen weight, and
axle weights are available in the tractor Operator's
Manual.
The unladen weight is the weight of the tractor when it is
not carrying any passengers, goods, or other items. It
includes all parts normally used with the tractor.
The permitted gross weight is the total permitted weight
allowed by the tractor manufacture. It includes the weight
of the tractor, front counter weights, tire weights, ballast
water, and attached equipment.
The permitted front axle weight is the maximum weight
allowed on the front tires and permitted rear axle weight
is the maximum weight allowed on the rear tires.
Locate these weights in the tractor Operator's Manual
and record those weights below:
Unladen weight . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . __________
Permitted gross weight . . . . . . . . . . . . . . __________
Permitted front axle weight . . . . . . . . . . . __________
Permitted rear axle weight . . . . . . . . . . . __________
Tire Data
Data relating to the front and rear tires can be found in the
documentation supplied by the tire manufacturer. If the
axle is supported by two tires, the permitted tire load
capacity of one tire is multiplied by two.
Locate the tire load capacities in the manufacturers
documentation and record those weights below:

Assessment of Load Capacities
If any of the checks below do not meet the requirements,
the attached implement must not be used with the tractor.
Effective Gross Weight
The effective gross weight equals the actual weight of the
tractor, front counter weights, tire weights, ballast water,
and weight of the attached 3-point implement. Weigh the
tractor with the implement raised off the ground.
Effective gross weight . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . __________
Check:
Make sure the effective gross weight does not exceed the
permitted gross weight.
Front Axle Load
With the flail mower attached and raised off the ground,
weigh only the load on the tractor's front tires.
Front axle load . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . __________
Check:
The front axle load must be equal to or greater than 20%
of the unladen weight of the tractor.
Unladen weight x .2 equals minimum front axle load.
If the front axle load is less than 20% of the unladen
weight, add counterweights to the front of the tractor until
the front axle load is at least 20% of the unladen weight.
Check:
The front axle load must not exceed the permitted front
tire load capacity.
Rear Axle Load
With the flail mower attached and raised off the ground,
weigh only the load on the tractor's rear tires or subtract
the front axle load from the effective gross weight.
Rear axle load . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . __________
Check:
The weighed rear axle load must not exceed the
permitted rear axle weight.
Check:
The rear axle load must not exceed the permitted rear tire
load.
