6.
With the sterndrive in the normal operating position, partially open both the sterndrive and engine flushing water supplies
(about 1/2 maximum flow). Do not use full water pressure.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that there is an adequate supply of cooling water to both the sterndrive and the engine during
operation.
7.
Place the remote control in the neutral, idle speed position and start the engine.
Operating the engine out of the water at high speeds creates suction, which can collapse the water supply hose and overheat
the engine. Do not operate the engine above 1400 RPM out of the water and without sufficient cooling water supply.
8.
Operate the engine with the sterndrive in neutral at a fast idle between 600 to 1400 RPM for about 10 minutes or until
discharge water is clear.
9.
Monitor the water temperature gauge to ensure that the engine is operating normally.
10. Slowly return the throttle to the idle speed position.
11. Stop the engine.
12. Shut off the water supplies.
13. Remove the sterndrive flushing attachment.
14. Remove any adapters used and reconnect the seawater hoses.
Flushing the Seawater System—Bravo Sterndrives
You must flush the seawater system with fresh water periodically when operating in saltwater, brackish water, polluted water, or
water with a high mineral content. We recommend flushing the seawater system after each outing when operating under these
conditions. Always flush the seawater system after operating in saltwater and prior to placing the boat in storage. See Routine
and Schedule Maintenance section of this manual.
Rotating propellers can cause serious injury or death. Never operate the boat out of the water with a propeller installed.
Before installing or removing a propeller, place the drive unit in neutral and engage the lanyard stop switch to prevent the
engine from starting. Place a block of wood between the propeller blade and the anti‑ventilation plate.
1.
Drain the seawater section of the cooling system. See Draining the Seawater System.
