data" area of the C230-2 using the Download menu command:
– Configuration data
– Programs
– Parameterizations
– Technology packages
Baud rates, PROFIBUS DP addresses for the C230-2 (X8, X9) and the retain
variables are also stored in the "Non-volatile data" area.
2. Using the menu command Copy RAM to ROM, the following data is saved to
the Micro Memory Card from the Engineering System:
– The technology packages and user data from the "Volatile data" area
– Baud rate, PROFIBUS DP addresses, IP address, subnet dialog box and
router address and the Retain variables with their initial values from the
"Non-volatile data" area
Note:
The current values of the Retain variables are not saved to the Micro
Memory Card.
3. As the C230-2 ramps up, the SIMOTION Kernel (basic system) is loaded into
the system area of the "Volatile data".
4. The contents of the "Volatile data" area are lost once the C230-2 is switched off.
When the C230-2 is switched on, the following data is transferred from the Mi-

– The technology packages and user data to the "Volatile data" area
– Baud rate, PROFIBUS DP addresses, IP address, subnet dialog box and
router address and the Retain variables with their initial values to the
"Non-volatile data" area
5. The SIMOTION Kernel is written to the "Non-volatile system" through a Micro

If you want to install a newer or an older version of the SIMOTION Kernel that
is on the C230-2, you can use the Micro Memory Card to perform an update
