Installing Patch Cords

The AT&T System 75 and System 85 User's Guide—Terminal Installation and Test (999-700-
214IS) contains installation procedures for the voice terminals and their adjuncts. The voice
terminals and their adjuncts must be installed before the patch cords and power adapter
cords are connected.
In all cases, the shortest patch cord should be used to make the cross-connection.
To install the patch cords, proceed as follows:
1 .
At the blue or white field, locate the jack number associated with the terminal
location.
2 .
Plug one end of the patch cord onto the connecting block associated with this jack.
3 .
At the purple field, locate the port jack number identified on the Port Assignment
Record and plug the other end of the patch cord onto the connecting block
associated with the port jack.
4 .
Route patch cord through the vertical and horizontal patch cord troughs.
5 .
If the patch cord is too short, select the next longer patch cord.
6 .
Update the Port Assignment Record.
7 .
Repeat the procedure until all patch cords are installed.
Update system translations.

Removing Patch Cords

When it is necessary to remove patch cords due to voice terminal removal, the voice terminal
must be first disconnected at the information outlet. The patch cord must then be
completely removed from the cross-connect field. This will provide an accurate visual
indication of available connecting blocks associated with port and station jacks. Do not
leave a partially or totally disconnected patch cord intermingled with other patch cords.
When it is necessary to rearrange patch cords due to voice terminal moves, it is strongly
recommended that the entire patch cord be removed and reinstalled even if only one end of
the cross-connection is affected. This will reduce cord entanglement and help to assure a
neat patch cord appearance.
To remove a patch cord, proceed as follows:
1 .
On the Port Assignment Record, locate the connecting block associated with the
jack assignments at the purple and white or blue fields.
2 .
At the purple field, unplug the patch cord.
3 .
Gently lift the patch cord straight up, taking up slack, until the cord can be located
by its movement in the patch cord troughs.
4 .
Remove the patch cord from the patch cord troughs.
5 .
Trace the other end to its connection point at the blue or white field and unplug
the cord.
6 .
Update the Port Assignment Form.
Update system translations.
