2. Lay the server on its side for easier operation.
3. Record the cable routing and cable connections. Then, disconnect all cables from the system board.
4. To access the system board, do the following in order:
a. "Removing the rear system fan" on page 93
b. "Removing a PCIe card" on page 61
c. "Removing a memory module" on page 59
d. "Removing the heat sink and fan assembly" on page 96
e. "Removing the CPU" on page 105
f.
"Removing the coin-cell battery" on page 108
5. Remove the eight screws that secure the system board following the recommended numerical sequence
as shown. Then, carefully remove the system board out of the chassis.

6. Place the old system board on a clean, flat, and static-protective surface.
7. Note the orientation of the new system board and carefully place it into the chassis. Ensure that the rear
connectors on the new system board are inserted into the corresponding holes in the rear panel and the
eight screw holes in the new system board are aligned with the corresponding mounting studs on the
chassis. Then, install the eight screws following the recommended numerical sequence in the reverse
sequence as you remove them to secure the new system board in place.
8. For the new system board, remove the CPU socket cover from the CPU socket.
Note: Do not drop anything onto the CPU socket while it is exposed. The socket pins must be kept as
clean as possible.
