Change oil as follows:
(1) Provide an open container for catching the old oil below the oil drain plug. Container capacity
must be greater than 30 quarts (28.4 liters).
(2) The oil drain tube can be attained though a hole in the access panel underneath the generator
set.
(3) Open drain plug located in oil pan.
(4) While oil is draining, change the oil filter element. See instructions below.
(5) Provide a container for catching spilled oil from the filter.
(6) Remove the oil filter by twisting counter-clockwise and inspect it.
(7) NOTE: The gasket can stick to the filter head. Make sure it is removed before installing a new
filter.
(8) Fill the new filter with clean lubricating oil before installation.
(9) Apply a light coating of lubricating oil to the gasket-sealing surface and install the filter. DO NOT
over tighten the filter.
(10) Clean the drain plug and install when engine oil has completely drained. Torque the drain plug to
50 foot-pounds (68 Nm).
(11) Refill the engine with new, clean oil that meets engine manufacturer's recommendations.
CAUTION
Remember to close the drain plug valve and install the new oil before starting the
engine.
(12) Start engine and check oil pressure at once. Allow engine to idle for 5 minutes, check for leaks,
than stop the engine.
(13) After the engine has been stopped for about 5 minutes, recheck the oil level. Add oil, if required,
to bring the level up to the high bar on the oil dipstick.
CAUTION
If bearing metal particles are found on the element or in the shell, the source should
be determined before a failure.
CAUTION
Determine source of moisture, internal leaks, defective seals, gaskets, etc.
