GENERAL INFORMATION
EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM
The exhaust
emission
control system is composed
of
a three
-
way catalytic converter
and PGM
-
FI
system
.
The exhaust
emission
control system is separate from the crankcase emission control
system
.
THREE
-
WAY CATALYTIC CONVERTER
This motorcycle is equipped with a three
-
way catalytic
converter
.
The three
-
way catalytic converter is in the exhaust system
.
Through chemical
reactions , it
converts
HC , CO , and NOx in the
engine
'
s exhaust to carbon dioxide ( CO
2
) , nitrogen ( N
2
)
,
and water
vapor .
No adjustment to these systems should be made although
periodic
inspection of the components is
recommended
.
EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM ( 50 STATE MODEL ONLY )
Fuel vapor from the fuel tank is routed into the EVAP canister where it is absorbed and stored while the engine is stopped . When
the engine is
running and the EVAP
purge control
solenoid
valve is open
,
fuel vapor in the EVAP canister is drawn
into the
engine
.

THE NOISE CONTROL SYSTEM IS PROHIBITED : U . S . Federal law prohibits ,

) The removal or rendering inoperative by any person , other than for
purposes
of
maintenance

repair
or replacement , of any device
or element of design incorporated into any vehicle for the purpose of noise
control prior to its sale or delivery

the ultimate customer or while it is in use ; ( 2 ) the use of the vehicle after such device or element
of design has been removed or rendered inoperative by any person
.

Removal of , or puncturing of the muffler , baffles , header pipes or any other component which conducts
exhaust
gases
.

of , or puncturing of any part of the intake system

Lack of
proper maintenance .

or disabling any emissions compliance component , or replacing
any compliance
component
with
a
non
-
compliant
component
.
FUEL PERMEATION EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM
This motorcycle complies with the Fuel Permeation Emission
Control regulations
of the U

. Environmental Protection
Agency
( EPA )
,
the
California Air Resources
Board (
CARB )
, and
Environment Canada ( EC )
.
The fuel tank ,
fuel
hoses , and fuel vapor
charge hoses used
on
this motorcycle incorporate fuel permeation control
technologies
. Tampering with the fuel
tank
,
fuel hoses ,
or
fuel vapor charge hoses to reduce or defeat the effectiveness of
the fuel
permeation technologies is
prohibited by
federal
regulations
.
