MAINTENANCE
CRANKCASE BREATHER
Remove
the drain
plug
from
the breather tube
to
empty any
deposits.
Reinstall
the
drain
plug
and
clip.
NOTE
•
Service
more
frequently
when
riding
in
rain or at
full
throttle.

DRAIN PLUG
SPARK
PLUG
Disconnect
the spark
plug caps
and
remove
the spark plugs.
NOTE
•
Clean
around
the spark
plug bases with
compressed
air
before removing,
and bo
sure
that
no
debris
is
allowed
to
enter the
combustion chamber.
Remove
the spark plug
and
inspect or replace
as described
in
the
maintenance
schedule.

for
damage
•
Electrodes
for
wear
•
Burning
condition, coloration;

dark to
light
brown
indicates
good
condition.

excessive
lightness indicates
malfunctioning
ignition
system
or lean mixture.

or black
sooty deposit
indicates over-rich mixture.
SIDE
ELECTRODE
REUSING A SPARK PLUG
Clean
the
spark plug olectrodes with a wire
brush
or
special
plug
cleaner.
Check
the
gap between
the center
and
side electrodes with
a wire-type
feeler
gauge.
If
necessary,
adjust the
gap by
bending
the side electrode
carefully.
