146 Driving and parking
Applying or releasing the electric parking
brake manually
To apply: push handle 1.
#
The F (USA) or ! (Canada) indicator
lamp appears in the instrument cluster.
To release: switch on the ignition.
#
Pull handle 1.
#
The F (USA) or ! (Canada) indicator
lamp in the instrument cluster goes out.

Emergency braking

Press and hold handle 1.
#
When the vehicle has been braked to a
standstill:
The electric parking brake is applied.
R
The F (USA) or ! (Canada) symbol
R
appears in the instrument cluster.

Parking the vehicle

If you leave the vehicle parked for longer
R
than four weeks, damage may occur to the
battery.
If you leave the vehicle parked for longer
R
than six weeks, it may suffer damage as a
result of lack of use.
Information on parking your vehicle can be
R
obtained at a qualified specialist workshop.

Standby mode

Function of the standby mode
Standby mode is characterized by the following:
The vehicle can be parked over a long period
R
of time without losing power.
The vehicle battery is preserved.
R
The maximum period out of use is shown in
R
the multimedia system display.
Functions such as interior protection or tow-
R
away protection are not available.
The connection to online services is interrup‐
R
ted.
If the following conditions are fulfilled, standby
mode can be activated or deactivated using the
multimedia system:
The engine is switched off.
R
The ignition is switched on.
R
Exceeding the vehicle's displayed period out of
use may cause inconvenience, i.e. it cannot be
guaranteed that the starter battery will reliably
start the engine.
