Assigning a Footswitch to Switch From One Setup To
Another
You can assign a footswitch to switch from one setup to another if you need to change setups
very quickly during a performance. When switching setups on the PC3LE, held notes from your
previous setup will not be cut off, allowing you to seamlessly change sounds for quick
transitions between songs, or even during a song. There are a few methods for switching setups
with a footswitch, this tutorial will explain the most straightforward method, and then mention
some other techniques.
For this example we'll use one switch pedal to move to the next Setup in the Setups list. With
this method you can arrange the Setups you will need for a performance in the correct order and
use a footswitch to advance through the list. You'll need a switch pedal plugged into the SW2
pedal jack (see Pedals on page 2-3 for compatible pedal types.) You could also use the SW1 pedal
jack, but most people will want to keep a pedal plugged into that jack for its default sustain
function.
A Note About Effects: Though previously held notes will not be cut off when changing setups,
you may hear a change in the sound of the held notes due to effects being turned on and off.
When switching setups, the PC3LE attempts to keep effects active for held notes of your
previous setup. If there are not enough effects units available, the previously used effects will be
shut off in favor of the new setup's effects. This is usually only a problem for large setups that
use many Zones containing programs with their own effects. If you run into this issue, try
editing your setups or their programs to use fewer DSP units (see A Note About Processor Power
Allocation on page 6-13 for more information.) Another option for getting around this issue is to
set the ChgSetups parameter to KeyUp (see Change Setups (ChgSetups) on page 9-15.) Doing this,
the Setup will not change until you release all held notes from the previous Setup. The effects of
the previous Setup will not be switched off until you release all held notes, so the sound of the
previous Setup will not be changed. The only disadvantage is that you cannot play notes from
your new setup while holding notes from the previous. If you don't need to play your next
Setup while holding notes from the last, setting the ChgSetups parameter to KeyUp is the best
option.

If you are not already in Setup mode, press the Exit button until you reach the ProgramMode page,
then press the Setup mode button, located with the mode buttons to the left of the display. This
will bring you to the Setup mode main page. Next, press 28 and then Enter on the alphanumeric
pad to select the Setup 28 World (see below.) You can also select Setups by using the - / + buttons
or Alpha Wheel.
