1. Place the infant car seat in a rear-facing
position in a vehicle seat.
2. Thread the vehicle belt through the
closest vehicle belt hook on the side of
the car seat. Move the belt underneath
the hook and across the seat.
3. Thread the vehicle belt through the
opposite vehicle belt hook.
4. Buckle the vehicle belt.
5. Ensure that the vehicle belt is locked.
For information on locking the belt, see
Section 4.3 and your vehicle owner's
manual.
6. Push down firmly with your free hand
on the infant car seat, and pull the
free end of the lap belt or the shoulder portion of the lap/
shoulder belt to tighten it.
7. Ensure that the vehicle seat belt
does not cause the seat to be
unlevel. Readjust the vehicle seat
belt as necessary to secure the infant
car seat firmly in the vehicle seat.
8. Ensure the belt is tight. Attempt to move the seat by firmly
pushing and pulling. The base or seat should not move
more than 1 inch (2.5 cm) from side-to-side and back-to-
front at the location of the belt path. If the belt loosens or
lengthens, reinstall the seat.
