PREPARING AUDIO FILES IN ITUNES

This chapter assumes that you have already done the hard part of the job of creating an
audio tour: recording and editing your audio files. They are now ready for adaptation to the
PICKUP audio guide. This means converting them to a suitable file format (MP3) and assign-
ing the right info in their ID3 tag. The files are then ready to copy to your master PICKUP.
Once you have tested your audio tour works correctly with the master PICKUP, you can then
use it to clone all the PICKUP audio guides for your installation. If you need to update the
content at a later date, you simply repeat the process: update your master PICKUP, test it,
then clone it.
To prepare the sound files for PICKUP use iTunes, available for Mac and PC. It is available
for free at: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.
Although iTunes has numerous features that are not relevant to PICKUP purposes, it is a fast,
easy-to-use tool for preparing audio guide files.

If you also use iTunes on your computer for other
purposes (for instance, your personal music library) you may
want to separate it from PICKUP projects. To do so, simply
create a separate PICKUP library by holding down the Alt key
(MacOS) or Shift (Windows) when you open iTunes. A new
folder is created for files related to PICKUP.
