Do not connect the Switch Module to the internal network until the IP address is correctly set for your
Ethernet network requirements.

Using the CLI menu from the serial console

Use the following steps to connect and modify the Embedded Switch Module IP address through
the PRIMERGY BX900 S2 Management Blade (MMB) serial console.
1. Disable any serial communication programs that are running on the management workstation.
2. Connect a serial cable from a management workstation to the MMB.
3. Open a HyperTerminal on a PC or TERM in a Linux or UNIX environment and establish a

terminal session to the Embedded Switch Module from the management workstation. You will
use this connection if you want to reset the module's IP address using CLI commands and
perform other configuration tasks.
For Windows
a. Click Start and select Programs > Accessories > Communications > Hyperterminal.
The Connection Description dialog box displays.
b. Enter a name for the connection in the Connection Description text box, then click OK.

From the Hyperterminal window, select an available COM port from the Connect using list
and click OK.
The Port Settings dialog box displays.
d. From the COM Properties window, select the following configuration values, then click OK.
Bits per second: 115200
Databits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow Control: None
The Hyperterminal is now connected and ready to accept text.
e. Use the MMB default username and password.
user name admin
password admin
NOTE
The Switch Module comes direct from the factory with an additional startup process to set
the initial password. To bypass setting the initial password, use Ctrl+C to exit or press Enter
to proceed. The password remains unchanged. You will be prompted at each subsequent
login until the password is changed.
