Installation and safety considerations when handling transceivers
and cables
This section discusses the following topics:
DANGER
Use only optical transceivers that are qualified by Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. and
comply with the FDA Class 1 radiation performance requirements defined in 21 CFR Subchapter
I, and with IEC 825-2. Optical products that do not comply with these standards might emit light
that is hazardous to the eyes.

Fiber-optic connector cleaning

To avoid problems with the connection between the SFP and SFP+ transceivers and the fiber cable
connectors, Brocade strongly recommends cleaning both connectors each time you disconnect and
reconnect them. In particular, dust can accumulate in the connectors and cause problems such as
reducing the optic launch power.
To clean the fiber-optic cable connectors, Brocade recommends using a fiber-optic reel-type
cleaner. You can purchase this type of cleaner from the following website.
When you are not using an SFP+ optical transceiver, make sure to use the protective covering.

Handling SFP+ optical transceivers

Before installing an SFP+ optical transceiver, be aware of the following:

The housing on the SFP+ optical transceiver includes an integral guide key that is designed to
prevent you from inserting the transceiver incorrectly.
Use minimal pressure when you insert an SFP+ optical transceiver in the port. Forcing the
transceiver into the port can cause damage to the transceiver or the Switch Module port.
You can insert or remove an SFP+ optical transceiver while the Fujitsu PRIMERGY BX900 S2 or
BX400 Blade Server is powered on.
You must first insert the SFP+ optical transceiver in the port before connecting the cables.
You must remove the cable from the SFP+ optical transceiver before you remove the SFP+
optical transceiver from the Switch Module.
