When you touch the resistive material, the Pen Tray controller, connected to both your
computer and the interactive overlay, sends contact information to the SMART Board Service.
The SMART Board Service is the driver component of SMART Board Software that runs in the
background, translating your contact with the SBPD into a variety of configurable behaviors.
To respond correctly to your touch, the SMART Board Service needs to know the precise area
of the interactive overlay affected. You provide the SMART Board Service with this information
by performing an orientation procedure, a simple process of touching firmly and precisely on a
grid of large red crosses that appears on the overlay. For a detailed description of how to
perform this procedure, refer to page 19 of this guide.
SMART Pen Tray
In addition to the interactive overlay, the SBPD comes with a SMART Pen Tray. The Pen Tray
includes four styluses and an eraser. To write on top of the computer image, just pick up one
of the four colored styluses from the Pen Tray and write on the SBPD.
Optional Icon Strips
The SBPD comes with three optional icon strips: the Display Control Strip, Custom Strip and
Tool Strip.
If you have a Windows computer with an available serial port, you can use the Display Control
Strip to turn your plasma display on and off, select a different screen width and perform other
tasks to control the plasma display.
