1. Activate the SBPD by installing the SMART Board Software and connecting the SBPD to a
computer (pages 14–19).
2. Orient the SBPD (page 19).
3. If you're using a Windows computer, you may want to set up On-Screen Display Controls
to control the plasma display from the SBPD surface (pages 20–21).

Activating an SBPD Connected to a Windows Computer

Win
The procedure for activating an SBPD connected to a Windows computer varies depending on
whether you connect to a serial or USB port.
To activate an SBPD connected to a Windows computer serial port:
1. Insert the SMART Board Software CD into your CD-ROM drive.
The SMART Board Software setup program should start automatically. If it doesn't, select
Start, Run and enter x:\autorun.exe (where x: is your CD-ROM drive). Follow the on-
screen instructions to install the SMART Board Software.
At the end of SMART Board Software installation, you'll be asked if you want to put the
SMART Board Tools icon in your Startup Folder. We recommend you reply affirmatively.
Consequently, whenever you activate Windows, SMART Board Tools will always be open,
and your SBPD will be fully functional without any further action.
2. Without removing the SMART Board Software CD, shut off your computer.
3. Insert the long end of the DB9-to-DB9 serial cable into an available serial port on your
computer. The other end of the cable should have already been connected to the Pen
Tray, as explained on page 9. Unplug your keyboard connector and reconnect it to the
supplied SMART Keyboard adapter cable. Insert the male end of the keyboard adapter
into the keyboard port on your computer. Finally, insert the keyboard adapter's power plug
into the power plug socket on the back of the long DB9 connector.
