Lubrication
Lubricate every 1,000 km or sooner if the chain appears
dry. Clean the drive chain thoroughly and lubricate it with
Transmission Oil SAE 80 or 90. Saturate each chain link
joint so that the lubricant penetrates between the link
plates, pins, bushings and rollers.
NOTE
Do not apply lubricant in excess. Besides aiding in the
accumulation of dust, sand and dirt, the lubricant will
be sprayed on the motorcycle due to chain movement.
ATTENTION
If the chain is excessively dirty, it should be
removed and cleaned before lubrication. For your
own safety, we recommend that this service be
performed by an authorized Honda dealer.
Removal and Cleaning
When the drive chain becomes excessively dirty, it
should be removed and cleaned before lubrication.
1. With the engine off, carefully remove the master link
retaining clip (1) using pliers. Do not bend or twist
the clip. Remove the master link. Remove the drive
chain from the motorcycle.

2. Clean the drive chain in non-flammable solvent and
allow it to dry. Inspect the drive chain for wear or
damage. Replace any chain that has damaged
