Electrical System – Boat/Engine Interface Wiring
The electrical system of the MV10 is mostly self contained and comes pre-assembled as
delivered. The interface with boat wiring follows established practices and conforms to
regulatory guidelines. Every effort has been made to make the electrical connection "plug
and play" so that minimal to no reworking of the established wiring will be required when
rigging an MV10 engine.
All connections to the engine run through a round weather pack 9-pin connector and
pigtail following industry standard installation. The engine has the male 9-pin connector
mounted on the starboard side of the engine. The instrument and switch loom for the
dash panel is wired through a matching female pigtail. The female connector and pigtail is
available from ILMOR Marine Engines (see
The following connections need to be made to the female (boat-side) nine-pin connector
for all electrical systems to function correctly.
Pin1 (Black) GROUND - The heavy gauge black wire supplies battery ground to the
dashboard for all purposes (a common ground). This circuit must be spliced to provide
ground to each gauge, light etc.
Pin 2 (Grey) TACH - This is the tachometer signal wire to be connected to the signal input
of the tachometer.
ordering the tachometer the manufacturer will need to configure each tachometer to 2.5
pulses per rev. AutoMeter, Hardin Marine and Livorsi Marine tachometers can all be
configured to work with the MV10. However, any make of configurable tachometer will
work when configured properly.
MV10 engines require unique tachometers. The ECU delivers 2.5 pulses per engine
revolution. Failure to use the correct tach will result in erroneous display of engine
speed. These instruments are readily available from most manufactures.
Pin 3 (Tan) WATER TEMP - This wire provides the water temperature signal to the
gauge. The MV10 is fitted with an industry standard 100 – 240º F water temperature
sender and appropriate wiring. The engine installer will need to wire a 100 – 240º F water
temperature gauge per industry standard.
Pin 4 (Tan with Blue Stripe) ALARM - This wire provides the alarm signal to the warning
buzzer. A systems alarm package is fitted to all MV10 engines. Water temperature, oil
temperature, and oil pressure are monitored by the alarm system. Additionally, any boat
or outdrive warning sensors that ground when out of range can be added to this system.
The signal delivered is 2.5 pulses per engine revolution.
