Starting the MV10

WARNING
Do not start the engine without a water supply to the seawater pump or damage
to the seawater pump impeller will occur. This could lead to engine overheating
and significant engine damage.
IMPORTANT
The following items should be checked on a daily basis:
1. The fuel system for any signs of leaks.
2. Engine coolant and engine oil levels.
3. Exhaust system for leaks and loose fasteners.
4. Exhaust system for water leaks.
If the exhaust headers are found to be leaking water, they could also be leaking water
internally. If water has leaked to the inside of the engine severe engine damage could
result. It is very important not to operate the engine if exhaust system water leaks
occur. Should this condition occur return the headers to Custom Marine Inc. (CMI) for
repair.
Failure to follow these recommendations could lead to the voiding of the
warranty.
Always perform these safety checks.
1. Operate the bilge blowers for at least ten seconds.
2. Check that the throttle is in the idle position.
3. Check that the gear selector is in the neutral position prior to start.
Turn the key to the "ON" position. The instrument panel will then power up. Turn the
key to the start position until the engine starts; release the key. Should the engine not
start within the first 30 seconds turn the ignition off and wait two minutes for the starter
to cool before attempting to restart the engine. The ignition should not be left switched
ON without the engine running for extended periods
Once the engine has started, check immediately for proper oil pressure. Check that the
charging system is charging properly by checking that the voltmeter indicates greater
than 13 volts.
Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature (170ºF). Should the engine
temperature rises beyond 210ºF shut off the engine immediately and determine the
cause or contact an Ilmor authorized dealer/service center.
