Power Steering System

The MV10 is supplied with a high capacity power steering pump which is compatible with
most marine industry standard hydraulic steering systems. On dual-engine set-ups, one
engine will be fitted with a power steering pump, while the other will have the delete
option. Full plumbing details of the power steering system should be obtained from the
steering gear manufacturer.
The power steering fluid should run through a high pressure power steering filter between
the pump and helm steering unit as well as through the power steering fluid cooler as
directed by the steering system manufacturer.
The power steering pump on the MV10 has two connections that need to be made prior to
use. High pressure power steering supply fluid flows out of the -6AN steel fitting located
on the pump housing. The hydraulic lines used on the high pressure side of the system
must be of the type specifically intended for use in power steering systems and should be
capable of withholding 2,000 psi.
The returning fluid is plumbed through the cooler by means of the supplied -6AN fittings on
the power steering cooler body attached to the lower left side of the engine block. See
figure 16 for further detail.
NOTE
®
Recommended power steering fluid is Mopar
Power Steering Fluid MS 5931 or
equivalent. This fluid can be obtained from any Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealership or
directly through Ilmor Marine Engines. DO NOT use automatic transmission fluid
(ATF).
