Configuration files

3-4
A configuration file is a group of custom settings that, as a frequent
user, you can bring with you each time you use the Scan Station. For
example, the configuration file could include a personal email address
book. You can also set up defaults for settings you use all the time. For
example, you may always scan documents to be sent to the same
network folder.
A configuration file is saved to a USB flash drive that you insert when
you use the Scan Station. The Scan Station recognizes if the USB flash
drive contains a configuration file, and loads your settings before
scanning. The Configuration Organizer can also save configuration files
on a local or network drive. An administrator creates a special version
of a configuration file that they download into the Scan Station, where it
provides the default settings for walk-up users of the device.
A configuration file contains information that appears on the Destination
mode and Settings mode screens at the Scan Station. Only the
destination groups and items saved within the configuration file appear
on the Destination mode screen at the Scan Station. For example, if
you want to restrict a user from scanning to anything other than an
office printer, you can remove the email and network share groups.
Regardless of whether a destination actually exists on the network, if
the device is not configured to show it on the menu, a user cannot send
their documents to the destination.
You can also define default settings in the configuration file. You do not
have to define every setting in the configuration file, only those settings
whose values you want to be different than the Scan Station defaults. If
you do not define a setting in the configuration file, the default value at
the Scan Station is used. Refer to the section entitled, "Customizing
settings for your scan session" in Chapter 2 for more information.
You can create a configuration file on a USB flash drive or your PC
using the Configuration Organizer.
