TROUBLESHOOTING
Trouble symptom
The starting motor does not rotate
and the engine cannot start.
The pinion gear of the starter
does not mesh.
The pinion gear meshes but
the starting motor does not
rotate.
Note: Starter relay operation on YDT
• Check the "Diagnostic Test Digital-Out"
• Check the "Manual"
• Enter the Password
• Enter the Engine Starter Inter Lock RL ON / OFF

Causes
Starter relay contact failure.
Magnet-switch terminal is
loose.
Magnet-switch contact
failure.
Coil failure.
Burr on the tooth.
Clearance between the
pinion and the ring gear.
Loose battery or loose
starting motor terminals.
Starter coil failure.
The clutch slips.
Battery cable resistance is
too high. (The wire diameter
is thin.)
The battery voltage is too low
(battery discharge).

Troubleshooting by Symptom
Corrective action
Check the operation of the
starter relay with a YDT or
equivalent service tool and a
tester. If there is a
malfunction, replace it.
Check the magnet-switch
terminal. If a malfunction is
found, repair or replace.
Repair or replace.
Repair the clearance.
Check the terminals. If
trouble is found, repair.
Replace or repair.
Replace or repair.
Replace with the proper
cable.
Check the electrolyte level
and the specific gravity.
Charge the battery or
replace.
Check the electric circuit
wiring.
