LUBRICATION
OIL COOLER COMPONENTS
AND FUNCTIONS
The engine oil flows through the oil cooler and is
cooled by the coolant system.

Inspecting the Oil Cooler

1. Clean the inside of the seawater tubes with a
nylon brush to prevent scale buildup.
2. If the rubber hose connection or welds are
corroded, repair or replace the cooler.
3. Apply the following water pressures to the
seawater and oil lines to check for any leaks.
Repair or replace the cooler if there are any
leaks.

ROTARY WASTE OIL PUMP
COMPONENTS AND
FUNCTIONS (OPTIONAL)
A rotary waste oil pump (Figure 8-10), used to
pump out waste oil during oil changing, is available
as an option. This is a vane-type pump. Turning the
handle rotates the vanes and pumps out the waste
oil.
