Charging Procedure
1. Check the specific gravity and adjust the
electrolyte level.
2. Disconnect the battery cables.
3. Connect the red clip of the charger
(Figure 12-7, (1)) to the positive (+) battery
terminal and connect the black clip to the
negative (-) terminal.

4. Set the current to 1/10 to 1/5 of the capacity
indicated on the outside of the battery
(Figure 12-7, (2)).
5. Periodically measure the specific gravity during
charging to make sure the specific gravity
remains at a high fixed value. Also check
whether gas is being generated.

Charging Precautions
1. Remove the battery caps to vent the gas during
charging.
2. The electrolyte temperature should not exceed
45°C (113°F) during charging.

3. Since an alternator is used on this engine when
charging with a charger, always disconnect the
battery cables to prevent destruction of the
diodes in the alternator.
NOTICE: Disconnect the negative (-) cable first.
