3.7 What's in the Misc Control Menu?

Some of these controls you will probably set once and never change. Some you will use only for
testing.
In the Misc Control menu, you will find the
following special controls:

[x] Sharpness
[x] 16M Colors
[x] Buzzer Enable
[x] Auto Lamp On
[ ] Viewport Color
[ ] Test Patterns

Sharpness is on for computer sources. If the
box is not checked, the video goes through a
low-pass filter, softening the image. Sharpness
must be on to set Frequency and Phase. In
general, it should be on for computer sources
and off for video sources.
16M Colors, when checked, means the system
uses 16 million colors; otherwise it uses 256
thousand colors.
Buzzer Enable turns on (or off) the beep you
hear when a remote control command is
received. The triple beep, which means a com-
mand was received but will not be executed, is
not affected; they are always audible. You might
hear a triple beep when you try to turn the dis-
play on and the lamp access door is open. The
interlock is open and the lamp won't light.
Auto Panel On means the unit will try to
illuminate after the electronics module gets
3 - 38
power (and after some initialization procedures
and a short delay time). If this box is not
checked, the electronics module goes into a
standby mode, the Standby LED stays on, and
the unit waits for an ON command.
Viewport Color determines the color of the
"blank" part of the screen when viewing images
that don't fill the screen. When checked, the
color is blue; unchecked, black.
Test Patterns opens a menu to generate test
patterns. These are all internal test patterns,
which cannot be used for Frequency, Phase, or
Black and White Level adjustments. Be sure to
set Test Patterns to Off when you are through
testing. Turning on a test pattern blocks incom-
ing pictures. To open the test pattern menu,
highlight Test Patterns in the Misc Cont-
rol menu and press
