Chapter 1: Getting started

Dedicated display power supply

In addition to using power from SeaTalk
dedicated 12 V power source. Each individual display must be separately connected
to the power source with the power cable supplied, and each power cable must be
connected to the power supply via a 5A fuse or equivalent protective device.

Siting requirements

WARNING: Potential ignition sources
The equipment in these instructions is NOT approved for use in
hazardous/flammable atmospheres such as an engine room.
CAUTION: Maintain structural safety
Where it is necessary to cut holes (e.g. for cable routing and display
mounting), ensure that these will not cause a hazard by weakening critical
parts of the vessel's structure.
ST70+ displays and keypads can be fitted either above or below deck, provided the
rear of each product is protected from contact with water.Each product must also be
positioned where:
It is easily read by the helmsman. Bear in mind that there are limitations in how
well the display screens can be read when not viewed straight-on, Note that the
maximum viewing angles are:
From above: 30°
From below: 60°
From the each side: 55°
It is protected against physical damage.
It is at least 9in (230mm) from a compass.
It is at least 20in (500mm) from radio receiving equipment.
There is reasonable rear access for installation and servicing.
It is within 400 mm of a SeaTalk
display or keypad.

Other considerations

When planning an installation, ensure that you position the displays and keypads for
most effective control of the boat, bearing in mind that, during the subsequent
commissioning procedure:
Each ST70+ display is set up to operate either as an Instrument or as a Pilot Con-
troller.
The entire ST70+ system can be configured to operate in groups, with each group
comprising up to four displays all of the same type, i.e. all Instruments or all Pilot
Controllers.
At least one keypad is allocated to each group of displays. The allocated keypad
must be of the appropriate type for the display group, i.e. either an Instrument key-
pad or Pilot Controller keypad.
