T. Distance, centre line of pinion
to back face of crownwheel.
Constant 1.575".
t. Variation from T, + or-.
p. Matching number of gears.
R. Distance, centre line of crownwheel
to pinion face, 2.3366" on early
models. See test for modifications
to later models.
r. Variation from R in mm, +or-.

TOTAL DEPTH OF TRANSMISSION CASE J (see
illustration):
Measure the left and right transmission case halves A
and B with a rule and a depth gauge as shown.

The depth gauge is to make contact with the inner race
of the carrier ball bearing. Repeat measuring at different
points.
Add the measured values of A and B to obtain the total
depth J of the transmission case.
LENGTH OF DIFFERENTIAL CASE L (See Wustration):
The length of the differential case is measured with a
vernier caliper, the dimension being the distance between
the bearing register on each side·.
DISTANCE FROM RING GEAR BACK FACE TO SHIM
CONTACT FACE G:
The distance is measured with a depth gauge.
HOW TO DETERMINE THICKNESS OF SHIMS:
The thickness of the two differential shims (Sl) and
(S2) is determined as illustrated by the following example:
Formula:
Sl
=
J - B - (1: ±t)- G

S2 = J - L

V - Sl
DEPTH OF RIGHT TRANSMISSION CASE HALF B (See
mustration):
This dimension is to be ascertained by a rule and a
depth micrometer or a depth gauge.
It is recommended to repeat the measuring at three
points of the ball bearing inner race and ascertain the mean
value.
