BVM Voice Mail Ports

Having eight BVM ports available on the Inter-Tel CS-5200 and CS-5400 platforms provides
increased availability and response time for voice processor applications. Under normal
business conditions, increased ports allow fast response to applications such as voice mail,
Message Notification/Retrieval, Automated Attendant, and Record-A-Call.
The Inter-Tel 5000 platform is equipped with four licensed BVM ports in its default configuration
without an external voice processing PC. Additional four-port licenses may be purchased. An
Inter-Tel CS-5200 or CS-5400 system can be programmed with 0, 4, or 8 ports reserved for
voice mail. The CS-5600 system can be programmed for 0, 4, 8, 12, or 16 ports. The user can
reserve up to the maximum ports supported by the license installed. For programming
instructions, refer to the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming Guide (part no. 580.8006).
The Inter-Tel CS-5600 supports 16 BVM ports on the PS-1. When the PS-1 is installed, the
eight-port BVM feature is disabled. The CS-5600 initially provides four BVM ports and additional
ports can be licensed and added in four-port increments. For programming instructions, refer to
the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming Guide (part no. 580.8006).

BVM Forward to E-Mail Characteristics

BVM Forward to E-Mail possesses the following characteristics:

Initial Recording Handling

If Forward and Copy is selected as the e-mail forwarding type in DB Programming, the initial
recording is left at the voice mailbox until deleted using voice mail.
NOTE
If Forward is selected at the voice mailbox as the e-mail forwarding type, the initial recording is
deleted. Use this setting with caution because e-mail delivery on the Internet is not guaranteed.
Only one copy is kept on the system of the initial recording.

Temporary Files

Temporary files are used during the conversion from the initial recorded message to the SMTP–
MIME format. The temporary storage required may impact overall BVM storage capacity.
