This problem can be caused by:
– the CD-ROM pulling the bus down or opening the positive temperature coefficient
(PTC) on the SCSI adapter
– a defective SCSI adapter
– a defective terminator
– a defective System Board (ELM)
– a defective cable
If AIX is installed, the CD-ROM Drive can be eliminated by removing it, installing the disk
that contains AIX, and trying to boot diagnostics from disk.
Is AIX installed?
NO
YES
Step 15
(from Step 14)
1. Set the power button on the system unit to Off.
2. Unplug the system from the electrical outlet.
3. Remove the CD-ROM drive.
4. Install the disk required to boot diagnostics. This is normally hdisk0.
5. Plug the system into the electrical outlet.
6. Set the power button on the system unit to On.
7. If the Maintenance Menu is displayed, select System Boot, then Boot From List.
8. If the system stops with a 260 displayed, and the Main Menu is displayed, Select Exit
Main Menu and Start System (Boot) and press Enter. When the "Starting
System Boot" menu displays, press Enter. Repeat this procedure each time these
conditions occur.
9. Wait for one of the following conditions to occur:
The system stops with a flashing or solid 269 displayed in the operator panel display.
The system stops with c31 displayed in the operator panel display.
The Diagnostic Operating Instructions display.
Is c31 displayed in the operator panel display or are the Diagnostic Operating
Instructions displayed?
NO
YES
One of the FRUs remaining in the system unit is defective. Go to Step 16.
Go to Step 15.
One of the FRUs remaining in the system unit is defective. Go to Step 16.
Replace the CD-ROM Drive. Go to "Map 0410: Repair Checkout" in the
Diagnostic Information For Micro Channel Bus Systems .
