1. Set the power button on the system unit to Off.
2. Unplug the system from the electrical outlet.
3. Record the slot numbers of the adapters. Label and record the location of any cables
attached to the adapters. Remove all the MCA adapters except the one that is attached
to the CD-ROM drive that you will IPL from and the one that your console is attached to.
Note: If a system console is connected to the to the CPU Enclosure, do not disconnect
4. Plug the system into the electrical outlet.
5. Set the power button on the system unit to On.
6. If the Maintenance Menu is displayed, select System Boot, then Boot From List.
7. If the system stops with a 260 displayed, and the Main Menu is displayed, Select Exit
Main Menu and Start System (Boot) and press Enter. When the "Starting
System Boot" menu displays, press Enter. Repeat this procedure each time these
conditions occur.
8. Wait for one of the following conditions to occur:
The system stops with c31 displayed in the operator panel display.
The system stops with a flashing or solid 269 displayed in the operator panel display.
The same three digit number is displayed in the operator panel display for longer than
three minutes except for 165 which may display for up to ten minutes with no activity
on the BUMP console.
The number 888 is flashing in the operator panel display.
Is c31 displayed in the operator panel display?

If a display attached to a display adapter will be the system console, do not
disconnect the keyboard.
The symptom has changed. Check for loose cards, cables, and obvious
problems. If you do not find a problem, return to Step 1 in this MAP, and
follow the instructions for the new symptom.
Go to Step 11.
