• From the Apple menu, select Control Panels
The Control Panels folder will open.
• Double-click the Extensions Manager icon.

The Extensions Manager panel will open.
• From the list that appears, uncheck the check box next to
the File Exchange control panel by clicking on it.
• Click Restart.
After your Macintosh restarts, proceed to the next step.
The Maxtor OneTouch button, Power management, and
OneTouch Settings utility program are not supported for USB
on the Macintosh. You may, however, use your drive as
external storage and utilize the Retrospect software to
maintain backup copies of your files and complete system.
To connect the USB cable
1. Plug the larger end of the USB cable into any available
USB port on your computer. This USB logo
may help you identify a USB port.

2. Plug the smaller end of the USB cable into the USB connection
on the drive.

Depending on the size of your drive, it may take several
seconds for your Macintosh to recognize the drive.
Eventually, this message will appear:
'This disk is unreadable by this Computer.'
3. Enter a Name for your drive and select Mac OS Extended
from the Format drop-down menu.
4. Click Initialize.
