In addition to the functions listed above, the function decoder
also monitors the input data for the first printable character (i.e., a
ONE in bit 6 or 7). Detection of the first printable character, sets
First Character Clock latch (FCCLK) internal to LSI chip ME25. Only when
this latch is set will the printer respond to a carriage return code (or
if the DSC option is used, to a LF, VT, or FF code) by printing the line
of characters.
