After installing new elements, run the following cycle to create a protective glaze on the
element surface.
Ramp to 1200°C at 8.3°C/min (500°C/hour)
Ramp to 1500°C at 5°C/min (300°C/hour)
Dwell for 1 hour

Element Mica Washer Replacement
Read the safety warning at the beginning of section 13.8 relating to Molybdenum Disilicide
elements.
Remove the element assembly as described in the first two paragraphs of section 13.8 -
'Removing an Element'. Do not completely dismantle the assembly. It is not necessary for
replacing a washer.
Refer to figure 13.6 on page 44 for the location of the washers in the assembly.
Using two spanners slacken and remove the brass locknuts. The brass and mica washers
can now be removed from the top of the assembly. Withdraw the element and brass
assemblies from the aluminium plate. The bottom mica washers can now be removed.
Contact Carbolite for spare mica washers.
Replacement of the washers is the reverse of this procedure. Refer to section 13.8 –
'Prepare and install a new element' for retightening the lock nut and re assembly into the
furnace.
