16 Introduction

Press Start/Stop button and release
when the engine is running. The
green LED will illuminate as soon
as the engine is running.
Press button again while engine is run-
ning to switch off the engine.

PARKING

n
Always apply parking brake with-
out pressing release button. Apply
as firmly as possible on a downhill
slope or uphill slope. Operate foot
brake at same time to reduce operat-
ing force.
Switch off the engine and ignition.
n
Turn the ignition key to 0, remove
and turn the steering wheel until the
steering wheel lock is felt to engage.
Vehicles with electronic key system:
With the vehicle stationary, press the
Start/Stop button and open the
driver's door. For vehicles with
automatic transmission, move selec-
tor lever to P position and remove
key.
If the vehicle is on a level surface or
n
uphill slope, engage first gear or set
the selector lever to P before swit-
ching off the ignition. On an uphill
slope, turn the front wheels away
from the kerb.
If the vehicle is on a downhill slope,
engage reverse gear or set the sele-
ctor lever to P before switching off
the ignition. Turn the front wheels
towards the kerb.
Close windows and sunroof.

Lock the vehicle with button
n
the remote control or, with elect-
ronic key system, press the switch
on the door handle.
Activate the anti-theft alarm system
n

Do not park the vehicle on an easy
n
flammable surface. The high tem-
perature of the exhaust system
could ignite the surface.

The engine cooling fans may run
after the engine has been switched
off .
After running at high engine speeds
n
or with high engine loads, operate
the diesel engine briefly at a low
load or run in neutral for about 1 to
2 minutes at idle speed before
switching off in order to protect the
turbocharger.
