Mechanical Initialization

Start Conditions
Mechanical initialization starts when either of the following situations occurs:
The mechanical initialization routine is called by the MC initialization
routine.
The controller asserts the engine operation request command for a reset
(mechanical initialization).
Note that the engine operation request command for a reset is asserted when
the printer switches from the offline idling state to the online idling state.
Description Of Operations
In the mechanical initialization process, execution of the following routines
takes place. As is the case with MC initialization, however, if the controller
confirms an error occurrence by receiving the basic status information
returned from the printer, it asserts the error status read command to identify
the error condition and displays the relevant error information on the control
panel. For the timing of individual operations, see the timing diagrams
presented at the end of this chapter.
1. Sensor output check.
Checkout is performed to see whether the transfer unit is placed in the
lower position. If not, the transfer unit is moved into the lower position.
Also, the cutter is checked to see whether it is in its home position. If not,
an error occurs.
2. Drum cleaning.
a. The drum motor starts running, and the discharge lamp lights at the
high power level.
b. The main charger and precharger simultaneously turn ON when drum
rotation is stabilized.
c. The cleaning bias turns ON when the precharged drum surface area
comes into contact with the conductive brush.
d. The magroll motor (developing roller inner-pole magnet drive motor)
and sleeve motor (developing roller sleeve drive motor) start to turn
ON the developing bias when the main charged drum surface area is
in the proximity of the developing roller.
e. When the drum has made 10 revolutions, the discharge lamp light
intensity lowers and the main charger and developing bias turn OFF
to stop the magroll and sleeve motors.
f.
The precharger and cleaning bias simultaneously turn OFF when the
drum makes another two revolutions.
g. The discharge lamp turns OFF at the same time the drum motor
stops.
3. Power stacker unit (optional) ready.
(Power paper stacker unit, vacuum fan motor, main unit feed motor, and
tractor drive)
