Using the PAIO with a DC Power Source
The internal DC power supply will simulatneously power the laptop and charge a spare battery
inserted in the PAIO charger. Rear panel connections can be used to power USB devices.
1. The attached DC cigarette lighter cable can be connected to a suitable 11-32 VDC source.
The voltage source must be able to provide a minmum of 10 amps of current.
2. Plug the cigarette lighter connector into a DC cigarette lighter receptacle.
*Note: The cigarette plug has a narrow (N) and a wide (W) setting for use in a wide range
of lighter receptacles and power points. If a loose fit is detected, switch the selector to the
wide position.
3. The Power LED indicator on top of the PAIO unit will light once voltage is applied.
4. The LED on the front of the unit will light when DC voltage to the laptop is available.
Using the PAIO to charge a battery
Charging begins automatically after inserting a battery pack into the charger bay.
1. The Power On and Charge Status indicators operate the same as when the
battery pack is charged in the computer (when the computer is off). The time it takes
for the battery to fully charge depends on the state of charge when inserted, the age
and condition of battery and the specific battery size.
Refer to the computer reference manual for additional information.
2. The battery pack and the PAIO unit will become somewhat warm during use.
This is normal and is not a malfunction.
3. The battery pack will charge when powered from either an AC source or DC source.
4. Position battery latch downward to allow for transport of unit with a battery installed.
