LAN Setup
This chapter describes how to configure LAN settings.

4.1 LAN Overview

A Local Area Network (LAN) is a shared communication system to which many computers are
attached. A LAN is a computer network limited to the immediate area, usually the same building or
floor of a building.
The LAN screens can help you configure a LAN DHCP server and manage IP addresses.
4.1.1 LANs, WANs and the TELKOM ADSL 5100
The actual physical connection determines whether the TELKOM ADSL 5100 ports are LAN or
WAN ports. There are two separate IP networks, one inside, the LAN network; the other outside:
the WAN network as shown next:

4.2 DNS Server Address

DNS (Domain Name System) is for mapping a domain name to its corresponding IP address and
vice versa. The DNS server is extremely important because without it, you must know the IP
address of a machine before you can access it. The DNS server addresses that you enter in the
