Emergency call*
In order to make an emergency call:
> The ignition key must be in position 1 or
beyond, or the telephone's handset must
be switched on.
>
The mobile phone network must be
receivable.
> The emergency call system must be
operational.
> It may be necessary for the SIM card to be
inserted and the PIN number to be entered.
It is possible to make an emergency call in
most GSM networks even without the SIM
card inserted.
The emergency number may vary from country
to country, but an emergency call can still be
made using the button in most GSM networks.
Misuse of the emergency call system is a
punishable offence.
Making an emergency call
1. To open the cover flap for the button: briefly
press cover flap.
2. Press the button for at least 2 seconds. If a
cancel query appears on the control display,
you can interrupt the emergency call within
5 seconds.
The indicator light in the button comes on.
As soon as a telephone connection has
been established with the general emer-
gency number, the indicator light flashes.

If the situation allows, wait in the car until voice
contact has been established. You can then
provide more precise details of the situation.
On vehicles where BMW Assist has been ena-
bled, telephone contact is established with the
BMW Assist emergency call centre. If the car's
current position can be determined, it is trans-
ferred to the emergency call centre.
If the indicator light flashes but you cannot hear
the emergency call centre via the hands-free
facility, this may mean e.g. that the hands-free
facility is not working. However, the emergency
call centre may still be able to hear you speak.
In certain circumstances, an emergency call
may be placed automatically immediately after
a serious accident. Use of the button does not
interfere with an automatic emergency call.
For technical reasons, it may not be pos-
sible to make an emergency call in highly
adverse conditions.<
