guidance
If the navigation system receives information on
a traffic obstruction and "Dynamic route" is not
selected, within about 100 km (approx.
60 miles) of the traffic obstruction you are pro-
vided with specific information such as the
length of the congestion.
The last possible turning to leave the route is
displayed to you shortly before you reach it.
This information is still displayed if you have
called up another application on the control
display.
Avoiding congestion
With the Professional navigation system:
Select "Plan detour" and press the control-
ler.
The navigation system calculates a new
route to avoid the congestion and then
takes you back onto the original route.
With the Business navigation system
Select "Dynamic route planning" and press
the controller.
The navigation system calculates a route
that depends on the road type and the
nature and length of the traffic congestion.
The route may cut through the traffic
obstruction or take you around the conges-
tion and then rejoin the original route.

Displaying current position

You can have your current position displayed
even with route guidance switched off.
1. Select "Navigation" and press the control-
ler.
2. Move the controller back twice until the
marker is in the fourth section down. Turn
the controller until "Vehicle position" is
selected and press the controller.
The current position of your BMW is displayed.
If the navigation system is unable to identify a
name for your current position, it is displayed as
degrees longitude and latitude.
To exit the menu:
Select the arrow and press the controller.
With the Professional navigation system, you
can also have the position shown on a map, see
page 118.
