Emergency call*
Prerequisites for an emergency call:
>
Business mobile phone provision: this
equipment specification permits you to
make an emergency call even if a mobile
phone has not been logged on in the vehi-
cle.
>
BMW Assist is activated. Activating
BMW Assist, see page 172.
>
Radio readiness is switched on.
>
The BMW Assist system is logged in to a
mobile communications network. This net-
work must be able to transfer the data.
>
The emergency call system is functional.
After the subscriber contract expires, the BMW
Assist system can be disabled by BMW Service
without the driver having to visit the workshop.
The BMW Assist system can be re-enabled
under certain circumstances after conclusion of
a new contract at BMW Service.
Even if a BMW Assist emergency call is not sup-
ported, it is still possible to initiate an emer-
gency call within most GSM networks using the
button.
The emergency number and applicable terms
of use can differ from one country to the next.
It is a punishable offence to misuse the emer-
gency call system.

Press the SOS button until the LED in the
button lights up.
As soon as a telephone connection with the
general emergency call centre has been estab-
lished, the LED flashes.
If a cancellation inquiry is shown on the Control
Display, you can cancel the emergency call
within a few seconds.
If the situation permits, wait in the car until voice
contact has been established. You can then
provide detailed information about your situa-
tion.
In the case of a BMW Assist emergency call, the
data required to decide on the rescue measures
to be taken is transferred to the emergency call
centre, e.g. the current position of your vehicle if
this can be determined.
If the LED is flashing but the emergency call
centre cannot be heard over the hands-free
system, it is possible that the hands-free sys-
tem is malfunctioning. The emergency call cen-
tre may still be able to hear you, however.
If certain requirements are met, an emergency
call is automatically initiated after a serious
accident. The automatic emergency call will not
be hindered by pressing the button.
For technical reasons, the emergency call
function cannot be ensured in certain
unfavourable
conditions.<
