Installation and Configuration
Transmitter Installation Location Guidelines
Transmitter should be located a minimum of 2 to 3 feet above the floor.
l
Locate transmitter within 8 feet from a 120 VAC electrical outlet.
l
Locate transmitter within 100' (30.48m) of antenna. The maximum cable length allowed between the antenna and
l
transmitter is 100' (30.48m) .
The transmitted signal from the antenna radiates in a circular and "umbrella" pattern; therefore a central location for the
l
transmitter where the antenna is at maximum allowable height is recommended to ensure best possible coverage.
In multi-story buildings, installation the transmitter on the top floor will often significantly improve coverage to the
l
lower floors due to the "umbrella" pattern of transmission.
GPS Receiver Installation Location Guidelines
Determine a suitable location for the GPS receiver unit. Location is extremely important to ensure the best operation of the system.
You must consider the following:
GPS receiver unit requires a "clear view of the sky" to receive a GPS signal 24 hours a day.

Typical mounting locations of the GPS receiver unit include the inside of a window (not a Low-E glass window), to an
l
exterior pole or on a rooftop.
GPS receiver unit should be kept away from large metal objects.
l
GPS receiver unit and cable are mounted above any potential standing water, snow depth, leaves or other obstructions
l
and it protected from weather.
Maximum total distance of the GPS cable to the transmitter cannot exceed 200' (60.96m).
l
If the GPS cable is located outdoors, the use of a gelwrap splice enclosure is strongly recommend.
l

To install the system and its components, you will need the following tools and equipment.
Hammer drill

3/4" concrete drill bit, 18" (45.72cm) long

Penetrating Mount only: 5/8" concrete drill bit, 18" (45.72cm) long
l
1/2" wrench
l
Caulk for concrete
l
Phillips and flat head screwdrivers
l
10" (25.4cm) adjustable wrench
l
Lineman's pliers
l
Shears/scissors
l
Transmitter shelf (recommended)
l
Building ground near transmitter
l
Ground near transmitting antenna
