Air Filter Cleaning

A dirty air filter restricts air flow to the carburetor,
reducing engine performance. If you operate the
engine in very dusty areas, clean the air filter after
each refueling.
1. Remove the air filter (see page 20).
2. Clean the air filter in warm soapy water, rinse,
and allow to dry thoroughly. Or, clean in
nonflammable solvent and allow to dry.
3. Dip the air filter in clean engine oil, then
squeeze out all excess oil. The engine will
smoke when started if too much oil is left in the
air filter.
NOTICE
Operating the engine with a dry air filter will
allow dust to enter causing engine damage.
The air filter must be oiled after cleaning.
4. Wipe dirt from the air cleaner base and cover
using a moist rag. Be careful to prevent dirt
from entering the carburetor.
5. Reinstall the air filter and air filter cover (see
page 20).
