1 The m aster keys w ith remote control
determ ine the functions of the Key
M em ory. Refer to page 56.
There is an extended- life battery
in every master key w hich is
charged automatically in the ignition
lock as you drive.
For this reason, if you have a master
key that is otherw ise not used, use that
key approx. once every year w hile
driving for an extended period. This w ill
charge the battery. Refer also to
page
37.<
2 Spare key for storage in a safe place,
such as in your w allet. This key is not
intended for continuous use.
3 Door and ignition key
The lock for the glove com partm ent
cannot be operated w ith this key.
This is recom mended for valet
parking, for instance.
Replacement keys
Replacem ent keys are available exclu-
sively through your BM W center. Since
the keys belong to a security system ,
your BM W center is obligated to ensure
that a person requesting a key is autho-
rized to do so (refer to "Electronic
vehicle im m obilizer" on the follow ing
page).
If possible, take all of the m aster
keys that belong to the vehicle
w ith you w hen you pick up your
replacem ent key.
Whenever you receive a new replace-
m ent key, turn that key to position 2 in
the ignition lock once (ignition sw itched
on) and then back. This allow s the elec-
tronic vehicle im m obilizer to "learn" the
new
key.<
