Backup Modes
52 Agent for VMware Guide
The Backup Mode dialog lets you specify a backup mode for the job. You can
back up data that is stored on a VM using the following options:
File Mode
Lets you perform the following actions:
Back up files and directories contained in VM that is running a VMware
■
supported Windows operating system.
Perform full, incremental, and differential backups.
■
Restore data at file level granularity.
■
Process multiple streams of data simultaneously using the
■
multistreaming option.
Filter data using the Filter option.
■
Note: For more information about filtering backup data, see the
Administration Guide or the online help.
Important! The elapsed time required to perform a file level backup of a
full VM is greater than the elapsed time required to perform a raw (full
VM) level backup of the same VM.
Raw Mode
Lets you perform the following actions:
Perform full backups of full VM images only.
■
Process multiple streams of data simultaneously using the
■
multistreaming option.
Note: Raw mode does not let you restore data at file level granularity
or filter raw (full VM) data. Filters applied to raw mode (full VM)
backups are ignored at runtime.
