Set Up Backing Up ESX Server Systems Using a Backup Proxy System
Configure VirtualCenter Server 2.5 Systems
32 Agent for VMware Guide
This topic describes how to configure the communication protocol on
VirtualCenter Server 2.5 systems.
To configure VirtualCenter Server 2.5 systems
1. Install ESX Server. For more information about ESX Server requirements,
see the VMware ESX Server Installation guide on the VMware website.
Note: To manage your ESX Servers through VMware VirtualCenter, you
must install and configure VirtualCenter Server as part of Virtual
Infrastructure installation.
2. Install VCB on the backup proxy system with the following environmental
conditions:
Windows 2003 Server (32-bit or 64-bit) must be the operating system
■
running on the backup proxy system.
If the VMs that you want to back up reside on a SAN, the backup
■
proxy system must be able to access the SAN storage LUN, and have
the same LUN number assigned. The LUN in the backup proxy system
should not be signed.
Note: For information about VCB installation, setup, and limitations, see
the Virtual Machine Backup Guide on the VMware website.
3. Log in to the VirtualCenter Server system as the Windows Administrator
for the machine.
Change to the directory containing the proxy.xml file. For example:
C:\Documents and Settings\AllUsers\Application Data\VMware VirtualCenter
4. Open the file labeled proxy.xml using a text-editing application.
Navigate to the list of end points in the file (identified by the
<EndpointList> tag) that contain the settings for the Web service
supporting the SDK. The nested tags may appear as follows:
<e id="1">
<_type>vim.ProxyService.LocalServiceSpec</_type>
<serverNamespace>/sdk</serverNamespace>
<accessMode>httpAndHttps</accessMode>
<port> 8085 </port>
</e>
Change the accessMode to httpAndHttps.
5. Restart the VirtualCenter Service from the command line or from the
Windows Services control panel.
6. Install the CA ARCserve Backup Client Agent for Windows on the backup
proxy system.
