    Installation Please close all other Windows programs before installation as they may interfere with the installation process. If you already have another antivirus product loaded you must disable its real-time protection (background checking) before installation. If you are not currently connected to the Internet, it is recommended that you do so at this time in order to complete the installation.
  • Page 4 • The Installation Location screen will appear. This screen will display the default installation folder in which EZ Antivirus will be installed to. If you wish to change the installation folder, enter the required folder in the field provided, or select the Browse button to choose a folder.

    Antivirus’ real-time protection can be loaded for the first time. Click the OK button to re- start. • The EZ Antivirus installation is now complete. The EZ Antivirus Program Window The interface, or program window, is divided into: the selection tabs, located on the top of the window, the buttons, located within the tab selected, and the Antivirus Protection Status, which is displayed in all tabs at the bottom of the window.

    Popup Help ‘Popup’ context sensitive help on all aspects of the various program windows can be obtained by clicking on the ? symbol in the top right hand side of the dialog (when available), then clicking on the field or item you wish to learn more about.     Scan Settings When you click on the Scan Settings button, a dialog box will appear containing all the options for configuring your virus scanning. Update Antivirus When you click the Update Antivirus button, EZ Antivirus will automatically connect to the download web site, and proceed to download a Virus Update.

    System Report When the System Report button is clicked, an application will start allowing you to send a report about your computer to my-eTrust Customer Support. This feature should only be used if you are experiencing a problem with the software, and Customer Support have requested your report. Antivirus Protection Status When running EZ Antivirus, you will notice at all times, either a tick, cross, clock or exclamation mark at the bottom of the main program window.

    On-demand Scanning EZ Antivirus functions in three main ways to detect viruses. These are: Real-time scanning, email scanning, and on-demand scanning. On-demand scanning occurs in a variety of ways: • When you open EZ Antivirus and click the Scan My Computer button, from the Virus Scanning tab.

When selected, no scheduled scan will take place. Run a scheduled scan of all files and folders If you enable this option, the scheduled scan will be enabled.

    Selective Scanning The on-demand scan can be ran easily, on all files and folders by using the Scan My Computer feature described above. If however, you wish to select certain files and folders to be scanned individually, you can use the Selective Scanning feature. Scan Files or Folders To access selective scanning, click the Selective Scanning button located on the Virus Scanning tab.

    Scan Settings The Scan Settings dialog box has three main functions. Firstly, it allows you to enable or disable the real-time and email scanners. Secondly, it allows you to choose the actions you wish to occur when dealing with infected items (cleaning and quarantining). The Scan Settings dialog box also allows you to set up a list of items to be excluded from both the on-demand and real-time scans.

    Scanning Exclusions If you click the Scan Settings button, located on the Scan My Computer tab, you will notice on the right hand side of the dialog box an Exclusions column and two buttons allowing you to Modify. These buttons allow you to enable a list of items to be excluded from the on-demand and real- time scanners.

    Real-time Protection EZ Antivirus automatically checks all files accessed, and all incoming email messages for viruses. Throughout this chapter, the term real-time protection applies to real-time file and email scanning. The real-time protection is the most vital antivirus component. It is actively scanning all your files and emails in the background as you use your computer.

    The following headings are displayed in the Infection Report window: • Filename: Displays the name and path of the infected item that was detected. • Infection: Gives the name of the virus that was detected. You will notice that this is in the form of a hyperlink.

    Enter the number of minutes (1-999) that you wish to suspend or snooze your protection, the simply click Snooze. At the end of this time your antivirus protection will be automatically re- activated. At any stage of the snooze activation, the Snooze option can be accessed by right-clicking the tray icon (which is next to the clock).
  • Page 19 The Update Tray Icon When the update is running, it will be represented by a small tray icon, at the bottom right-hand side of the screen, next to the clock: Tray Icon indicating update is currently in progress If you hover your mouse over the icon, details about the update progress are displayed. If you double-click the tray icon, the Update Progress window is displayed.
  • Page 20 The Update Progress Window The Update Progress window is also displayed when the update is running. If you can’t see the window, double-click the update tray icon (mentioned above). The Update Progress window displays all the information relevant to the update process. This includes the status of the update, the progress - measured in kB and percentage, and the speed of the download measured in kB per second.
  • Page 21 Automatically connect to the Internet if I am not already online: If you connect to the Internet using a modem, you can instruct EZ Antivirus to dial your default connection to perform the update. Proxy Settings A proxy server is the computer that you may need to connect to for access to the Internet. If you require a proxy server, the program will automatically try to find these details from your browser.

    Use these proxy server settings: Try using the Automatically detect proxy server settings option first. If this does not allow you to update, you will need to find your proxy server details and enter them in the fields supplied below this group of options. Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or network administrator can supply you with your proxy server details.
