Installation Prerequisites
How to Install and Configure the Agent
16 Agent for VMware Guide
Before installing the agent, you must satisfy the following prerequisites:
■
Ensure your system requirements meet the minimum requirements
needed to install the agent.
For a list of requirements, see the readme file.
■
Ensure that you have Administrator privileges.
■
Ensure that you know the name and password of the system where you
are installing the agent.
■
Ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2 or higher is installed and
running in your environment.
There are two methods that you can use to install the agent:
■
Install the agent while you are installing CA ARCserve Backup. The agent
follows the standard installation procedure for CA ARCserve Backup
system components, agents, and options.
■
Install the agent after you install CA ARCserve Backup. The Server Admin
lets you install and uninstall the agent at any time after you install CA
ARCserve Backup.
Note: For more information, see

To install and configure the agent, ensure that you complete the following
tasks:
1. Follow the procedures about installing CA ARCserve Backup in the
Implementation Guide.
Note: To install the agent, you must select the Primary Server or Stand-
alone Server installation type. The agent does not support member server
installations.
2. Install the license for the CA ARCserve Backup Agent for VMware on the
CA ARCserve Backup Primary or Stand-alone Server.
3. If Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is not present on your system before you
install the agent, you must register the vcb_com.dll file on the backup
proxy system. For more information, see

page 17).
4. Complete the configuration tasks described in
Server Systems Using a Backup Proxy System
Install the Agent Using the Server Admin
Register vcb_com.dll on 32-bit
Register vcb_com.dll on 64-bit Systems
