To configure the agent to protect VMs that reside on a SAN
1. From the backup proxy system, browse to the following directory:
C:\Program Files\CA\ARCserve Backup Client Agent for Windows
2. Using a text editing application such as Notepad, open the following file:
VMDatastoreTypes.ini
The VMDatastoreTypes.ini contains the following information:
[DataStoreType]
<<VM UUID>>=<<Mode>>
VMUUID—UUID of the Virtual Machine
Mode - 0 for a VM stored on a disk attached to SAN
- 1 for a VM stored in local storage
- 2 for a VM that has few disks on local storage and few disks on SAN
3. In the Mode field, specify a value of 1.
This lets CA ARCserve Backup perform a network-based backup using VCB
rather than a SAN based backup.
Examples: <<VM UUID>>=<<Mode>>
5018b93f-8524-fc94-fb56-a43d8c8ae975=0
564d157a-2c46-a775-3580-fa771fcb4be9=1
564df1e1-1444-6e1c-62c8-69da8a4e404c=2
4. Close and save VMDatastoreTypes.ini.
Note: CA ARCserve Backup overwrites the above file when you populate
the CA ARCserve Backup database using the ca_vcbpopulatedb Command
Line Utility and the ARCserve VMware Configuration Tool. As a result, you
must repeat this task after you populate the CA ARCserve Backup
database.
